Filmmakers visit the Presidential Palace!

On Friday, 19 July, an official meeting of representatives of a broad coalition of filmmakers with the advisor to the President of the Republic of Poland, Łukasz Rzepecki, took place at the Presidential Palace. Małgorzata Machczyńska, attorney at law, represented the Polish Filmmakers Association (SFP-ZAPA) at these talks.

The meeting was also attended by: Elżbieta Benkowska (chairwoman of the SFP Youth Circle), Marta Chabros (PSC), Zofia Goraj (SFP Youth Circle), Maciej Musiał (ZZAP), Małgorzata Prociak (KIPA), Diana Szczotka (SFP Youth Circle), Katarzyna Warzecha (Young Professionals' Circle of the Polish Film Association) and Marianna Zydek (Public Service Alliance of Polish Professionals).

As stated in the meeting note on the website of the Chancellery of the President of Poland:

During the meeting, the guests presented their opinions on the amendment to the Copyright and Related Rights Act, including the position on internet royalties.
Attention was drawn to the challenges faced by young filmmakers in the era of domination by large technology corporations and streaming platforms, as well as the need for state support in promoting and protecting the copyright of young creators. The representatives of the Youth Circle emphasised the need to protect the interests of young artists, who often do not have an adequate negotiating position in their dealings with large market players.

The meeting ended with an emphasis on the importance of dialogue between artists and representatives of public administration.
