On September 26, this year, the Polish Filmmakers Association entered into a court settlement with INEA, one of the largest cable operators in Poland, a court settlement for the years (X) 2020 - (III) 2024. It ends a long-standing legal dispute between the parties and determines how the cable operator will settle the remaining amount of remuneration for the rebroadcast of audiovisual works from the SFP repertoire.
The agreement reached as a result of long and difficult negotiations is an important step forward, opening up new opportunities for cooperation and strengthening the foundations for further development of the relationship between the two parties. The negotiations were conducted in a spirit of mutual respect and understanding, which allowed for the development of solutions that reconcile the interests of both parties. Dominik Skoczek, Director of SFP-ZAPA, emphasizes:
We are convinced that the settlement brings tangible benefits not only to the entitled entities represented by our Association, but also to Inea. I am extremely pleased that collective management organizations and rights holders are able to sit down at the negotiating table and engage in a substantive dialogue. I would like to thank INEA CEO Maciej Piechociński and the negotiating teams of both parties for their constructive approach to the talks. The example of INEA but also other cable operators with whom we have recently held settlement talks, shows that despite initial differences and long-standing disputes over the basis of settlement and the structure of remuneration rates, a mutually satisfactory agreement can be reached.
