Visit of the French organisation La Scam to SFP-ZAPA

On 7 March, representatives of the French collective management organisation La Scam (Société Civile des Auteurs Multimédia) visited Warsaw. Director Hervé Rony and Director of Legal and Institutional Affairs Nicolas Mazars met with the SFP-ZAPA Management Board and the heads of the Legal Department and the Distribution and Author Services Department.

La Scam is the world's second largest organisation for the collection of royalties on behalf of audiovisual creators. In 2023, it collected over 120 million euros, of which over 100 million euros went to audiovisual works. La Scam brings together more than 50,000 authors and operates both in France and in other French-speaking countries, including Belgium and French-speaking Canada. The organisation manages the rights to various documentary forms, including films, series, podcasts, photographs and press articles.

The aim of the meeting between La Scam and SFP-ZAPA was to present the activities of both organisations and to exchange experiences. In France, collective management organisations and their mandate to manage the rights of creators have an extremely strong position despite the non-mandatory nature of their intermediation. The meeting discussed La Scam's experience in the collection and distribution of copyright royalties. Particular attention was paid to issues related to the online field of exploitation in connection with the expected amendment to the Polish Act on Copyright and Related Rights, which will allow SFP-ZAPA to collect royalties from streaming platforms. In France, this has been the standard for years. La Scam representatives have declared their openness to developing our cooperation.
